February 22nd
The Blues squad scrimmage the Purley Juniors in Purley's first juniors match. The Purley team was quite athletic but the Blues experience and lacrosse skill prevailed in the end. It was a high scoring scrimmage for 7 a side lacrosse with some good goalkeeping by both teams. The Blues team really came alive once the game got under way and played with a tenacity and urgency unlike any all season. The Blues really spread out the scoring with some players getting there first goal of the season. The play of the day belongs to "Bob" who had an incredible sequence of dodge and stick fakes which culminated in an impressive goal. The Purley coach had to say about the play, "Dude, I didn't know you had Mikey Powell on your team".

Blues U16 team also made the trip to Harpenden but with lighter numbers. The Blues combined teams with a number of Bucks players. The Blues/Bucks had a great game beating a mixture of Harpenden and Hitchen players 8-3. Points leaders for the Blues were Chris Willson who tallied two goals and one assist. One of which was the play of the day where Chris made a run from behind the cage and sailed through the crease in the air putting the ball passed the goalie in the back of the net. Ewan Willsmer also scored two goals even though he was fighting a cold. Chris Geldard added the final score for the Blues and Scott Sterling switching positions from goalie to middy in the fourth quarter tallied an assist. Bucks added the other three goals. Goalkeeper Scott Sterling and defenders Sam Harris, Ben Stobart and Alex Mayfield had another good day holding down the defensive end. Chris Willson sporting a very odd uniform look as goalkeeper during the fourth quarter also made three saves and provided some laughs from the spectators watching. Unfortunately Chris could not keep his clean sheet in two games alive as he eventually let in a very weak goal also his passing with a goalie stick needed some improvement "Stick to offense Chris", but really a hand goes out to Chris for suiting up and giving Scott some time on Offense

U-16 Blues v Spencer - Sunday 13th January 2008 Result 11-1
The Blues under 16 team put another impressive victory up against rivals Spencer. The last time these two teams faced each other the Blues controlled the entire game from face-off to finish. This victory over Spencer on a windy Sunday morning was the same. In fact the only trouble the Blues had was the two LDO coaches getting lost and arriving just at the start of the game.
Joe Hallam started the game with its first score where he crossed up his defender and shot a beautifully placed left handed shot. Ewan Willsmer team captain has dominated the face-offs all year at the U-16 level and did the same today. James Kidd, who normally sets up on the wing was asked to take some face-offs as well, winning the vast majority. Chris Geldard, Blues' middy was again a work horse fighting for every ground ball that came his way.
On defence Sam Harris, Alex Mayfield and goal keeper Scott Sterling allowed just 1 goal the entire game. In the fourth quarter Chris Wilson, the Blues' crafty attacker who posted a number of goals and assist in the game, switched positions with Scott and even tallied 3 saves allowing no goals. One of the best plays of the match came from a slow break where James Kidd moved the ball to Ewan who quickly passed on to Stephen Myatt who ended the play by putting the ball top shelf in the back of the net. In all the team played very well putting up a 10+ goal victory over Spencer great job lads.

Blues U16s and the Czech Tourers
On Monday 22nd and Thursday 25th October 2007, representatives from Blues U16s played in two matches against a team called Jizny Mesto from Prague.
In the first match they combined with players from East Grinstead. A slow start from the Blues/EG team allowed the Czechs to take an early lead. With the combined coaching of Cole and Zach, Blues/EG did find more structure to their game and began to play as a team, but the lead was unassailable despite three goals from Ewan Willsmer. The final score was 4-13 in favour of Jizny Mesto.
The Thursday match saw the Blues join with players from Spencer and Croydon to create an All Stars team to take on the Czechs at a wet and windswept Clockhouse. This game could not have started any differently from Mondays with the All Stars team taking an early 2-0 lead. However, the Czechs were never going to be a pushover and they quickly organised their defence to combat the All Stars offensive strengths. It was an end to end game that could have gone to either team until the last 10 minutes when Jizny Mesto scored a couple of quick goals, finally taking the spoils 3-6.
Thanks to Jizny Mesto for another great game and also thanks to John, Shawn and Jay for staying on after the camp to coach the team.
South of England Success for Blues U16s
Congratulations to James Kidd, Ewan Willsmer, Chris Willson and Scott Sterling for rounding off a long week of lacrosse by being selected for the South of England U18 Squad. As they are all only 15 this is an even greater success and a testament to their personal commitment to the game. We look forward to more Blues players joining them in the squad soon.
