Hi, I’m Matthew Birkett. I’m the Community School Sports Coach for Blues Lacrosse Club, and I work in the Woodcote High School Sports Partnership.
I started playing lacrosse at Portsmouth University, in 2004, where I was also the Vice President of the Club. I joined the Blues in 2006, and won the ‘Most Improved Player’ award in my first season at the Club. I am now Vice Captain of the 1st team, and represented the South of England at the British National Championships 2008. In September 2008, I became an English Lacrosse Level 2 Lacrosse coach.
In my job as CSSC, I have a full weekly timetable of schools, where I coach boys and girls aged 7 to 16, a mixture of pop and field lacrosse. As well as coaching in curriculum time, I do 5 after school clubs and 2 lunchtime clubs. During half term and school holidays I organise and run camps for children under 12.
I am also responsible for organising 10 lacrosse tournaments for Croydon Schools throughout the year. These tournaments allow all the children that the LDOs and I have been coaching to come together and compete.
