Lacrosse is a hugely flexible sport that can offer a real alternative to the mainstream sports normally available for young people. It can also bring a variety of benefits to individuals and within the classroom. We often find that pupils who have not previously shown interest in a particular sport before are attracted to lacrosse, and it can be a great leveller within a group as all the pupils are new to the skills.
At primary school level we teach Pop Lacrosse with emphasis on the FUNdamentals and high levels of participation using various games to introduce the basic skills of the game to the pupils. Whilst we recommend starting at Year 4, we can adapt our coaching to younger year groups although the stick can sometimes be bigger than the child!
At secondary school we can introduce either Lax or full Field Lacrosse whether for boys or girls and at any age.
We can deliver a coaching package that suits your needs, wither as part of the curriculum or as an extra-curricular activity. We also provide all necessary equipment. Whilst we normally make a modest charge, we are able to run FREE taster sessions so that you can assess the benefits of lacrosse for yourself. In certain circumstances these free taster sessions can extend to a 6-week coaching package for one class.
Our coaches for 2008/09 are Chris Collison, Chris Duffy and Amanda Crozier. They are all recent graduates from the US who have played lacrosse for many years and have experience teaching the sport to young people. They are recruited and employed under a programme run by the English Lacrosse Association and will be part of our club until April 09.
Before starting coaching in our schools, they attend a training package run by the ELA that qualifies them as Level 2 coaches and includes the Sports Coach UK Good Practise and Child Protection and Equity in Coaching modules. They also hold basic first aid certificates.
